Nice guys finish last...

You've heard it hundreds of times, "Nice guys finish last." Is it true? As we live in a world where most things aren't black and white, the answer is "yes and no."

Question:
I have a debate on school titled "nice guys finish last." I want to argue that they don't finish last. Can you please help me?

Answer
Unfortunately, in many cases, Nice Guys do finish last, but it doesn't have to be that way.

If you're always nice, you're going to be walked on. Even Nice Guys need to know when to be assertive, stand their ground and say, "no."

I can only speak for myself, but I can say that as a Nice Guy no matter what else may happen, when I get up in the morning, I can look in the mirror and say "I'm a good person who stands by his principles."

Of course, some mornings I get really bloody tired of seeing only my face in the mirror and no girlfriend or wife.

I have some nice guy friends who are doing great in life...cool girlfriends, wives, jobs, etc. And some who aren't doing so great. I think that being a "Nice Guy" is what you make of it. What makes most "Nice Guys" finish last isn't the fact that they're nice, it's the fact that they're not assertive and confident.

To quote Dennis Miller, "Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

Or to quote Addison Walker, "It's not true that nice guys finish last. Nice guys are winners before the game even starts."

I know it's not much, but it's the best I can come up with at 4am with insomnia.

Good Luck!!!
